I'm a preacher's kid and Daddy's girl.
I grew up outside of Washington DC with two dope parents - my own personal Claire Huxtable and a father who started our church when I was 9 months old. I wanted to be just like him.

When I was 16, my whole life changed.
My father had a fatal heart attack while preaching a sermon in the pulpit on a January Sunday morning. As he fell to the ground, his very last words were: "New life. New life." Those words would be burned into my heart forever and guide much of my life from that moment on.

I started my career in politics, policy & activism.
After working full time, holding down a full course load and graduating with student debt into a recession (Hello, Adulting!), I started a career in national politics focused on policy and engagment strategies relevant to the unique needs of my generation: Millennials.
And people started to notice.

Things got very fancy, very fast.
I was working like a woman on a mission, sharing messages of empowerment and justice, running an organization, raising millions of dollars for the work, crafting policy, traveling all over the world, taking meetings in the White House, consulting with Fortune 500 companies, and was a regular tv commentator. All by 25.
But secretly I wasn't happy.

So one day, I quit.
The truth is that I was making little to no money, was creatively uninspired and was tired of being a mascot for a system that was so disconnected from the things that really touch people's hearts. I remembered my daddy's last words and decided that it was time for a "new life".

For two years I studied, listened and learned.
I left DC for sunny Los Angeles and began building a new life based on the big questions about how the world works, who we are, and how we want to live. I wrote for Time Magazine, helped build a first of its kind brand studio for Upworthy.com, the fastest growing digital media company in history and interviewed hundreds of people from all walks of life about the fears, passions, ambitions and hopes that defined this diverse, tech savvy generation.

And now here we are.
After years of work, creating conversations in every major industry that drives change - from media and politics to faith and, most recently as the Head of the Creator’s Lab at Snapchat, tech - I now use what I’ve learned to share the true story of change, helping an ambitious, diverse generation live powerful effective lives.
I think (I hope...) my Daddy would be proud.
